The Aridia Rhinovirus/Enterovirus Real-Time PCR Test is based on the real-time amplification and detection of rhinovirus or enterovirus in a one-step format.
The test is designed for specific and qualitative detection and differentiation of rhinovirus and enterovirus in clinical specimens as an aid in the diagnosis of rhinovirus/enterovirus infection alongside all available clinical and epidemiological data, patient history, and other laboratory test outcomes. The product is intended for use by professionals specifically trained in nucleic acid amplification and in vitro diagnostic procedures.
Recommended for use: Any person presenting clinical signs or symptoms consistent with the common cold, including fever, sore throats, headaches, muscle aches, and coughing. In addition to respiratory illness, enterovirus infections can occur in the gastrointestinal tract and cause nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain.
Rhinovirus can be detected during virus shedding, which is usually several weeks but can persist for up to 5-6 weeks after symptom onset. Enterovirus can be detected 2-3 weeks after symptom onset in respiratory infections and even longer (7-8 weeks) in stool. A positive PCR test during these detection windows is confirmatory of rhinovirus or enterovirus infection. A negative PCR test does not exclude infection.
