The Aridia West Nile Virus Real-Time PCR Test is based on the real-time amplification and detection of West Nile Virus in a one-step format.
The test is designed for specific and qualitative detection of West Nile Virus in clinical specimens, as an aid in the diagnosis of West Nile virus infection alongside all available clinical and epidemiological data, patient history, and other laboratory test outcomes. The product is intended for use by professionals specifically trained in nucleic acid amplification techniques and in vitro diagnostic procedures.
Recommended for use: Any person presenting clinical signs or symptoms consistent with acute febrile illness, including fever, headaches, body aches, joint pains, rash, vomiting and nausea, and muscle pains. In rare cases, complications of West Nile virus infection can include neck stiffness, disorientation, convulsions, and numbness.
As a subset of the acute clinical symptoms of West Nile virus infection are also prevalent in Zika and dengue virus infections that are transmitted by the same mosquito vector, confirmatory diagnosis using real-time PCR is recommended for patients exhibiting clinically compatible symptoms to guide patient management decisions.
West Nile virus RNA is detectable in serum up to 8 days post symptom onset. A positive PCR test during this detection window is confirmatory of West Nile virus infection. A negative PCR test does not exclude infection as viremia decreases over time and must be followed up with serological testing.
